Zavier Pearn
Zavier pearn re-signs with The Jets for 2025
Fresh through the regional arrivals at Fly Palmy, we're excited to welcome back our hometown hooper, Zavier Pearn, to the Property Brokers Jets for '25
6'4 shooting guard/small forward Pearn is no stranger to Manawatu hoops and has been on the squad since 2018, starting as a training player. He also plays a key role in the community through his coaching in schools and holiday programmes. Coach Webster had this to say about working with this local hooper since landing in Palmy.
"Zavier is a great shooter who continues to impress the coaches at each training session. I can't wait to go to battle with this young man".
A Palmy local, Pearn attended Palmerston North Boys High School, playing in their Premier A Basketball team from 2018 to 2020, and was the co-captain in his last year. Growing up with basketball in his blood and part of daily family life with his dad, Jason Pearn, playing pro, as soon as he could, he was off playing locally in the reps and school programmes on offer.
After getting his first taste of the Sals NBL with The Jets in 2021, Zavier took a year off in 2022 to focus on his studies (Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Psychology) and played for Massey University, representing Massey in the 2022 National Tertiary 3x3 Championship, and most recently in the 2024 Tertiary 5x5 Nationals. The Jets welcomed Pearn back in 2023 as a development player, and in 2024, he was on the roster again and a key player in our first Rapid League squad.
In the off-season, Zavier has been focused on the in-school hoops programme, teaching kids years 1 to 8 at multiple primary and intermediate schools across Manawatu, coordinating holiday camps, and training himself daily ahead of the season.
"I'm super excited to be back with The Jets in 2025, representing Palmy as a local player! I'm also looking forward to playing for Coach Webster, meeting my new teammates, and winning games for the mighty Manawatu!" says Zavier about the season ahead.
Back in green for 2025 and representing Palmy, we're going to be seeing Pearn clocking up the game minutes on the court this season and being an integral part of our squad.
We can't wait to see Zaves back in action on the court this season and watch him soar to new heights in The Hangar!
Free agency for the 2025 Sal's NBL season is currently in play, and as we lock in our roster for 2025, we have some exciting announcements to come. Keep up to date with all the latest Jets news by following us on our socials @jetsbasketballnz on Instagram, Facebook, and X.
About Property Brokers Jets:
At the heart of Jets Basketball is community. As one of the eight founding teams of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1982, the Jets have proudly represented the Manawatū region. Over the years, the team has reached two NBL finals, in 1992 and 2020. Originally known as the Palmerston North Jets, the team expanded its regional focus and rebranded to the Manawatū Jets in 2002. Despite a brief hiatus in 2015, the Jets made a successful return to the league in 2018, reigniting their commitment to the sport and the community.
Today, the Jets’ vision extends beyond the court. It's about fostering a love for basketball and providing opportunities for kids across Manawatū. Whether they're playing in schoolyards, local playgrounds, or competitions at the Arena, our mission is to open doors for every child who dreams of reaching the highest level of the sport. At the Property Brokers Jets, we’re not just building a team; we’re building a future for the next generation of basketball players.
