Shane Temara

The Property Brokers Manawatū Jets are excited to have Shane Temara returning to the team for the 2021 Sal’s NBL season.

The 6’9” American-born Kiwi played four years of NCAA Division 1 basketball for the University of North Texas, before a breakout year with the Jets in the 2019 New Zealand Basketball League season.

Temara moved to the Taranaki Mountainairs for the 2020 season and was rated as one of the top 20 players in last year’s Sal’s NBL Showdown. He averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds a game during the season and helped the Airs reach the semi-finals, where they lost to none other than the Jets.

Jets head coach Tim McTamney said that with an extra year of development under his belt, and significant improvements to the way the Jets play, Temara would be a very important piece in this year’s team.

“Shane has good size, exceptional athletic ability and a rare shooting touch for a player of his size,” McTamney said.

“He fits perfectly within our scheme. I’m really pleased to have him back with the Jets in 2021 – he is a great guy and a very talented athlete.”

As well as being one of the league’s top rebounders last season, Temara’s efficiency on the offensive end was also a feature of his game. He averaged an impressive 58 percent from inside the arc, 35 percent from beyond the three-point line and 79 percent from the free-throw line.

Temara said he is looking forward to playing a bigger role with the Jets this season.

“My conversations with Coach Tim (McTamney) have me really excited about where the Jets are heading as a team – I see us contending for a championship again this season.”

The 2021 Sal’s NBL gets underway for the Property Brokers Jets in Auckland on Thursday 29th April when they take on the Auckland Huskies.
