The Jets for 2025
23 February 2025
Fresh out the Koru lounge with one of the biggest signings of the season, we're pumped to welcome Tall Black Corey Webster to the Property Brokers Jets for '25!
Webster, a 6'2 Point Guard from Auckland, arrives in Palmy fresh off the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers tour where he represented New Zealand on the Tall Blacks squad to join The Jets for our redemption season. Today is a significant day in Corey's career as the game against the Philippines at Spark Arena this afternoon marked his 100th game with the Tall Blacks, making Webster the 23rd Tall Black to reach this milestone.
With an impressive career spanning 16 years and counting, Webster is hailed as the 'walking bucket' and has played in multiple teams across the NZNBL, the NBL with the Perth Wildcats, and offshore in Europe, Israel, China, and more.
"Corey is a dynamic scorer who can also distribute the ball, as he's shown by leading the NBL in assists. Corey will be a key piece to The Jets' success this year," says Coach Webster about signing Corey and completing the team's 2025 roster.
Corey has represented New Zealand throughout his career, beginning at just 18, playing for the Tall Blacks debuting against Australia in 2008, with the BNZ Breakers, and the NZ Team at the Paris Olympics 2024. Webster is the second-highest point scorer in Tall Black history, behind FIBA Hall of Famer and legend Kirk Penney.
"I'm excited to support The Jets this season and spend some time in Manawatu, amongst the local community, sharing my lifelong love for hoops and influencing the next generation of hoopers, and sharing the court with the talented squad coach has assembled as we strive for the finals this NZNBL season," says Webster as he prepares to touchdown in the Manawatu ahead of the Sal's NBL season which tips off on the 12th of March.
When he's not making noise on the court, Corey runs a successful basketball coaching company, Webster Elite Basketball, which creates pathways for athletes, opportunities for players to travel overseas and compete in tournaments and experience basketball in the USA, and holiday camps and clinics across Aotearoa.
We can't wait to welcome this professional hooper to Palmy soon and see him bring the action in The Hangar!
Free agency for the 2025 Sal's NBL season is currently in play, and as we lock in our roster for 2025, we have some exciting announcements to come. Keep up to date with all the latest Jets news by following us on our socials @jetsbasketballnz on Instagram, Facebook, and X.
About Property Brokers Jets:
At the heart of Jets Basketball is community. As one of the eight founding teams of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1982, the Jets have proudly represented the Manawatū region. Over the years, the team has reached two NBL finals, in 1992 and 2020. Originally known as the Palmerston North Jets, the team expanded its regional focus and rebranded to the Manawatū Jets in 2002. Despite a brief hiatus in 2015, the Jets made a successful return to the league in 2018, reigniting their commitment to the sport and the community.
Today, the Jets’ vision extends beyond the court. It's about fostering a love for basketball and providing opportunities for kids across Manawatū. Whether they're playing in schoolyards, local playgrounds, or competitions at the Arena, our mission is to open doors for every child who dreams of reaching the highest level of the sport. At the Property Brokers Jets, we’re not just building a team; we’re building a future for the next generation of basketball players.
